1981
In May 1981 Twyla Tharp and her dance company came in to close out the Walnut season.
In addition to her world-renowned dance company, Tharp has choreographed five
Hollywood movies and directed and choreographed three Broadway shows including
Movin' Out for which she received the 2003 Tony Award. In all she has
received one Tony Award, two Emmy Awards, nineteen honorary doctorates, the
Vietnam Veterans of America President's Award, and the 2004 National Medal of the Arts.
