Known as "The First Lady of the American Theatre," Helen Hayes' career spanned
80 years. This American actress is one of only two women to have won an Emmy,
Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. She has had several theatres named for her,
including the current Helen Hayes Theatre, a Broadway house located on West
44th Street in Manhattan. In 1983 the Helen Hayes Awards were established in
Washington, DC, encouraging performers to reach for their goals as she did.
Hayes made her Walnut debut as Maggie Wylie in a revival of James M. Barrie's
