The hand-written note across the top of this advertisement from April 14, 1865 reads "No performance in consequence of death of A. Lincoln." The Walnut closed the next day and remained dark through the following week. Members of the theatrical profession drafted resolutions expressing regret that a fellow actor had been responsible for the shooting. They also gathered as a group at Independence Hall when Lincoln's remains were brought to Philadelphia as part of the funeral procession.
