WST For Kids Announces our 2009-2010 Season!

PHILADELPHIA, PA: Walnut Street Theatre for Kids will bring to life four popular children's books and a family holiday classic this season. The successful WST For Kids Series is celebrated for it's commitment to encouraging parents (and grandparents) to read to their kids. Kids are encouraged to use their imagination when reading - then see the shows live, in musical adaptations written especially for kids in grades K-6th and their grown-up friends. The Walnut takes pride in bringing together families through reading and the arts. This upcoming season the Walnut Street Theatre For Kids will present:

The season begins a little earlier than usual this year with LAURA INGALLS WILDER, a musical adaptation of Wilder's classic Little House series. Laura Ingalls and her family travel across America to find their own "little house on the prairie." In this uplifting musical, a pioneering sprit and family bonds are tested by scarlet fever, threatened eviction and more. Will the Ingalls family find home? Coming next, it's IF YOU GIVE A PIG A PANCAKE! WST For Kids audiences raved over our 2007 production of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Now, find out what happens when you give flapjacks to farm animals! Kids love this madcap musical based on their favorite stories including Diary of a Worm, Fluffy the Classroom Guinea Pig, Horace & Morris but Mostly Delores, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, Lilly's Big Day and The Paper Bag Princess. This wildly entertaining Theatreworks/USA production arrives on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.

Up Next, Walnut Street Theatre presents adventure on the high seas with HOW I BECAME A PIRATE. Jeremy Jacobs lives the dream of every young boy when a band of pirates land on his beach. They're looking for somewhere to bury their treasure! Jeremy joins Black Braid's crew - but soon misses his quiet home. Yo-ho the musical! Leave the land-lubbers behind on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm with special additional performances on March 26, April 8 and 9 at 10:30am; March 27 and April 10 at 11:00am.

Finally, a musical mystery is afoot in JIGSAW JONES! Athena Lorenzo has been slimed, and she doesn't think it's very funny. School kid detective Theodore "Jigsaw" Jones and his friend Mila investigate. This could be their stickiest case yet! This Artspower presentation, based James Preller's engaging The Case of the Class Clown, is Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.

WST for Kids series tickets are priced so that any family can attend these productions. A subscription to the 4-show series costs $36 ($9 per show) in the orchestra or lower mezzanine, or $30 ($7.50 per show) in the upper mezzanine. Subscriptions are on sale now. Special Holiday Attraction - THE RETURN OF Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL

The Walnut Street Theatre is proud to present its musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL on December 5 at 10:30am, 1pm and 3:30pm; December 10, 11, 16 and 17 at 10:30am; and December 12 and 19 at 11am. Miserly Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a miraculous change of heart of during the visit of three wondrous spirits. Great for kids K-9th, this hour-long adaptation uses original and traditional carols to highlight Dickens' powerful story. An ASL interpreted performance is December 16 at 10:30am.
