OTHERWISE KNOWN AS SHEILA THE GREAT, produced by ArtsPower, will kick off the Walnut Street Theatre for Kids Season at the Walnut on Saturday, November 22 at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
Sheila Tubman is a young girl whose fear of dogs, swimming, and spiders are just a few of the challenges she faces when she and her family decide to leave their New York City apartment for a summer in Tarrytown, New York. It is here where Sheila must either face her fears or simply cover them up, hoping no one will see how afraid she really is! Her attempts to fool friends and family provide a humorous and poignant backdrop for this touching musical.
OTHERWISE KNOWN AS SHEILA THE GREAT is directed and adapted by Greg Gunning based on the book by Judy Blume (Superfudge; Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret). This first staged adaptation of Blume's book is highly entertaining but also portrays valuable lessons for everyone about what is really important in our lives, like family and overcoming our own fears.
ArtsPower National Touring Theatre is one of America's preeminent producers of professional theatre for young and family audiences. ArtsPower is the second-largest such company in the nation. Its 22 professional touring productions have been seen by nearly seven million people in 46 states - from Alaska to Florida - in some of the nation's top cultural centers, including The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and Lincoln Center in New York.
The Walnut Street Theatre for Kids' Series is celebrated for its commitment to encouraging parents (and grandparents) to read to their kids. Kids enjoy the storybooks, and then discover a whole new level of imagination when they see the shows live, in musical adaptations written especially for grades K-6th and their grown-up friends. The Walnut takes pride in bringing families together through reading and the arts.
